The Perils of Positive Thinking

“What do you mean you don’t believe in positive thinking? You are the most positive person I have ever met!” exclaimed a man in a hospital group I facilitated for people with chronic pain.

I am grateful to be a positive person ...by nature and by design.

Growing up, I loved the Disney movie Pollyanna, The Little Engine that Could book and the folk song, Watch the Doughnut Not the Hole.

Positivity is one of my cherished core values and I am a passionate cheerleader for bright possibilities in every person at every stage of life.

And I often see positive thinking being misused.

Positive thinking misused can become a band-aid plastered over our challenges and a false smile covering up our uncomfortable emotions.

Positive thinking misused can lead to frustration and disappointment, separate you from your deepest inner wisdom and power and can keep you stuck in a negative situation.

We need to go beyond positive thinking to create the lives and the world we dream of.

What is beyond positive thinking? Authentic Positive Power.

The holistic, embodied approach I teach activates the natural brilliance of your body, mind, heart and soul so that you can transform your challenges into opportunities for growth and joy.
