“'As human beings our nervous systems are hardwired for comfort whereas our soul is hardwired for growth.” ~ Peter Sage
Yes! I thought as I read this quote recently at the beginning of an article. That’s so true.
Reading the rest of the article I was disappointed that the writer presented comfort as an obstacle to growth. He emphasized the conflict between comfort and growth as a central human dilemma and the importance of overcoming our desire for comfort so that we can grow.
Hmmm.
What if it’s not a problem?
What if we take it beyond a dilemma?
Pitting the needs of the nervous system against the needs of the soul creates a false problem.
An unnecessary battle.
A counterproductive conflict.
Let’s re-frame it.
You need both. Your nervous system is wired for comfort and your soul is wired for growth. Your nervous system and your soul can be allies working together for your greater good.
What shifts when you let go of thinking of it as a battle and choose to honor them both for the perspective and wisdom and guidance they each offer?
🌟 Nourish and soothe your nervous system and you will be stronger and more available to follow the creative callings of your soul.
🌟 Follow your soul into new experiences and growing edges and your nervous system grows more resilient and your bandwidth for handling more energy expands. 🌟
Hmmm, I wonder:
Where in your life can the needs and gifts of your nervous system and the needs and gifts of your soul work together?
What would you like to create, enjoy or experience with these two as your willing allies?
I'd love to hear from you.
Leave me a comment.
Believing in You,
